The Brook's Next TIDE
The Brook’s Next TIDE
In 2013, a group of 13 people planted The Brook out of a living room with a mission to lead the thirsty to the Water of Life: Jesus. Back then, we believed that the best way to reach Montclare was to learn the very fabric of the community. We wanted to know everything from where people worked and played to what ethnicities and customs existed. Since then, we’ve witnessed many believe the good news of Jesus, seen families restored, and mobilized men and women to become leaders! Surely, God is among us and working!
While we’ve seen God use The Brook to make disciples (followers of Jesus), we still exist in a spiritually parched community. There are thousands of people who have not been transformed by the Gospel. We see it everywhere! The family structure is shattered and there is an ongoing cycle of broken marriages and fatherlessness. There are many youth who have no direction and a sense of purpose for their lives. There are folks who idolize their possessions to no end and believe that Montclare is the gateway neighborhood; ”in the city, but at least I got a little space.” Evidently, our community is spiritually parched because thousands have not trusted in Jesus as their savior. Apart from Jesus, the brokenness we see is the fruit of a people who are not aligned to God’s good and perfect design.
At the TIDE Showcase, we are on a mission to provide a well of water in a community that is marked by spiritual famine. Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” This Friday, the students will display repairs they’ve done in our building, others will showcase their refurbished furniture or culinary skills. But I believe that God is calling The Brook at large to step out of our comfort zone and get to know our neighbors. For who knows but God’s Spirit, your interaction with someone may be a cup of the Living Water that begins a rising TIDE of men and woman restored back to God.
